We have over 1 million bees at Heath Farm!
Laila, Katie’s daughter, looks after the bees with her dad Simon. Together they check for swarm control and check the bee’s health. They are registered the National Bee Unit. They monitor the the hive to check that the Queen Bee is still in residence, that the bees have enough room ( so they don’t want to leave!) and aren’t suffering from Vero mite – a little bug which eats the bees wings.
In June they cultivate the spring honey, then at the end of August they collect the Summer honey.
